MRCOG Part 1 revision course successfully held at Hangzhou Venue

2019-08-21

Immediately after two revision courses given by the RCOG in Beijing and Shanghai in April, a local revision course was successfully held by the Women's Hospital of Zhejiang University at the Hangzhou Venue on May 9th. This is the third course for the upcoming MRCOG Part 1 exam in 2018 in the mainland China, aiming to increase the pass rate of the local candidates.

Dr Zhu Xiaoming, the director of the Teaching & Research Office, addressed at the opening of the course. And the deputy director, Dr Xu Xiangrong, gave a brief introduction of the Hangzhou Venue as well as the support and inputs made by the hospital.

The specially invited lecturer, Dr Xu Xiaobo, was the first Fellow of the College (FRCS) in mainland China entitled by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. He explained how he had prepared and passed the Membership Examination of Hong Kong Intercollegiate Board of Surgical Colleges and subsequently the Joint Specialty Fellowship Examination. Though unrelated to the MRCOG exam, Dr Xu's remarkable career as a general surgeon excited and inspired the audience.

The second lecturer, Dr Yun Feng, introduced the specialty training in O&G in the UK and the three parts of MRCOG exam. He placed emphasis on the Medical Training Initiative (MTI) scheme which had just  been accessible to the Chinese young doctors under the recent collaboration between the RCOG and the COGA since 2017. The meaning of the MRCOG exam and the MTI scheme, he said, was to select Chinese junior O&G doctors and to train them in the NHS system, who were expected  to become outstanding specialists with an international perspective.

Lastly, Drs Yun Feng and Hu Changchang, the only two doctors who had successfully passed the Part 1 in 2016, shared their personal experiences in revision and passing the exam, which were most helpful to and welcomed by the attending candidates. It is believed the pass rate at Hangzhou Venue this year will definitely be lifted up by this course.
